James Gunn Reveals Title Change for Upcoming Superman Film on First Day of Production
Filmmaker James Gunn recently shared on Instagram that the filming of the new Superman movie officially began on February 29, 2023. Formerly titled Superman: Legacy, Gunn decided to change the name of the film on the first day of shooting.
In an Instagram post showcasing a close-up of the Superman costume, Gunn expressed his excitement about commencing principal photography for SUPERMAN, coincidentally falling on Superman's birthday. He mentioned that the initial draft bore the title Superman: Legacy but evolved into the simpler SUPERMAN by the final script, set to grace the screens in July 2025.
The movie, now simply called Superman, will serve as the cornerstone for the DC Universe revamp supervised by Gunn and Peter Safran. The lead role of Superman will be portrayed by David Corenswet, with Rachel Brosnahan playing the role of Lois Lane. Among the cast list are Nicholas Hoult as the notorious villain Lux Luthor, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho, Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillon as Guy Gardner, Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl, and more.
Audiences can anticipate the release of Superman in theaters on July 11, 2025.
